Arun Jaitley back as finance minister after 3-month break

Arun Jaitley officially returns to finance ministry
Arun Jaitley had been on leave since May

Arun Jaitley will resume charge duties as the finance minister today. In a press statement from the office of the President of India, Jaitley was reassigned the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs, both of which he had temporarily given up earlier this year.

"The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Shri Arun Jaitley," the statement said.

Jaitley had been on leave since May as he was recuperating from a kidney transplant. Piyush Goyal had assumed charge as the finance minister during Jaitley's period of indisposition.

Jaitley was working from home since April but was advised to keep himself isolated. His most recent public appearance was in the Rajya Sabha earlier this month for the election of the Upper House's vice chairperson.
