Heavy rainfall registered across state, showers to continue
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, The city got some respite on Wednesday after heavy rainfall that lashed Bhopal relentlessly during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, nullahs in the city overflowed and the spillover flooded the roads, throwing traffic out of gear. The roads were inundated and water entered shops and houses in low-lying localities. The power supply got disrupted at a number of places in the night.
Residents registered complaints at the BMC call centre and emergency control centre, but the BMC squads did not arrive till the morning. By the time the BMC teams arrived the water in most of the affected areas had receded or people had themselves cleaned drains so that the water could drain out.
The Saifia College Road, localities near Bhopal Talkies, Alpana Tiraha, Bharat Talkies, Administration Academy were under four to five feet of water. The under-bridges of Subhash Nagar, Habibganj, Rachna Nagar, Chhola and Nishatpura became incommutable due to flooding. The traffic had to be diverted from Jyoti Talkies Square, Saifia College Road and Sindhi Colony Square as these areas remained under water throughout the day.
After the death of three people following wall collapse, the authorities are getting the police flats vacated from near Dhobi Ghat. There are two dozen flats in a crumbly building and cops and their families live in about one-and-half of them. The officials have asked policemen to vacate the flats.
Heavy rainfall to continue across state
Udaipura and Bhopal recorded 17 cm of rainfall which was the highest in the state in the past 24 hours. Bareli recorded 12 cm, Silwani recorded 11 cm, Bhensadehi recorded 10 cm, Khandwa and Sehore recorded 9 cm, Harda, Icchawar, Narsinghpur and Jabalpur recorded 6 cm, Mandla, Amarkantak, Khategaon, Maheswar, Nasrullahganj, Bhikangoan, Ashta, Khirkiya, Guna, Dhar, Begumganj recorded 5 cm of rainfall.
According to the forecast most of the parts of Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, Gwalior and Chambal divisions and Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Badwani, Ujjain and Dhar districts and several places in Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Ujjain( except Ujjain) and Indore (except Indore) would receive heavy rainfall.
The Met Department has said as many as 35 districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall. Most of the parts of Jabalpur, Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain divisions and several parts of Rewa, Gwalior, Hoshangabad, Shahdol and Sagar divisions witnessed rainfall in the next 24 hours.
A low pressure area over central part of North Madhya Pradesh has started its movement towards north west Madhya Pradesh which would make system feeble decreasing the rainfall in central part of North Madhya Pradesh while heavy rainfall would be witnessed in several parts of north west Madhya Pradesh in the next 2-3 days.
