MUMBAI: A watchman of a housing society at
Thakur Complex in
Kandivli (E) has been arrested for allegedly brutally killing a female dog from the locality which had littered. The dog died after a “sharp object was inserted in her private parts, causing her intestines to get dislodged, said a complaint lodged by members of an NGO, Mumbai Animal Association (MAA). Subsequently, an criminal complaint of extreme animal cruelty, causing death was lodged at Samta Nagar police station.
“The dog, Bindu, died in pain because of this barbaric brutality,” said activist Abhishek Kapdoskar. “Activists of MAA, Nisha Jain and Vatsal Nathwani, took the dog to the clinic of Dr Premal Darji in Gorai, but she could not be saved. Dr Darji confirmed that a sharp object had been shoved inside the dog, resulting in the intestines coming out.”
The police scanned footage from cameras installed around the locality and picked up the 40-year-old watchman,
identified only as Prem, on Tuesday night and he has confessed to having killed the dog on August 16.
“This is one of the most heinous animal cruelty cases. The dog had littered seven puppies and MAA is trying to help get them adopted,” said Kapdoskar.
