Defenders set to stay with Tottenham after talks over moves to Europe come to nothing

Defenders going nowhere

It seems that the Tottenham pair of Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld will be staying in north London for at least the first half of the season. According to Talksport, the Lilywhites “have no bids on the table” for either Rose or Alderweireld, scotching rumours that the duo would be packing their bags before the end of the month.

Left-back Rose has been linked with Bundesliga outfit Schalke but, claims Talksport, he “had been holding out for a move to Paris Saint-Germain”.

The French side were reportedly interested in the 28-year-old blocker but apparently decided not to make a move for the time being.

That, however, is contradicted by Metro, which claims that PSG are still very much in the hunt for Rose having sold Yuri Berchiche to Athletic Bilbao.

Belgian courted by Bayern

As for Belgian hardman Alderweireld, who started in the 3-1 Premier League win over Fulham, he’s “been courted by Bayern Munich” recently after gossip suggesting he was off to Manchester United came to naught.

Talksport presenter Jim White declared that he has it on good authority that “there are no offers on the table at Tottenham” and nor does the club expect to receive any before the European transfer window closes at the end of next week

Sissoko says OK to move

But that’s not the case with Moussa Sissoko, reports Turkish-football.com, bringing news of a report in AMK newspaper which states that Fenerbahce sporting director Damien Comolli (once of Spurs) is “on the verge of striking a deal with Tottenham” for the loan transfer of Sissoko.

The paper says that the 29-year-old French midfielder knocked back the Turkish club’s original offer, but they’ve since returned with a new and improved deal and Sissoko is close to accepting.

Sissoko, who featured for Spurs on the opening day of the season against Newcastle United, is resigned to life on the fringes of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, and the chance of regular game time in Turkey is a tempting one.
