VMware shares slide after results top Street view

VMware Inc. VMW, +0.32% shares declined in the extended session Thursday even after the computer virtualization company's quarterly results topped Wall Street estimates. VMware shares fell 5% after hours, following a 0.3% gain to close the regular session at $154.77. The company reported second-quarter net income of $644 million, or $1.56 a share, compared with $406 million, or 98 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were $1.54 a share. Revenue rose to $2.17 billion from $1.93 billion in the year-ago period. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated $1.49 a share on revenue of $2.15 billion.
