Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday visited flood relief camps in the district. He visited Christian College, Chengannur, and Lajnathul Muhammadiya Higher Secondary School, Alappuzha, and interacted with flood victims.
Mr. Vijayan, who arrived in a chopper at the Christian College ground in the morning, went straight to see the people staying at the camp. He spent around 30 minutes at the camp listening to the grievances of the inmates. The Chief Minister inquired about their life at the camp and reviewed its functioning.
A teary-eyed Molly Chellappan told him that she had lost everything and was rescued by fishermen. The Chief Minister, before leaving the camp, promised all help to rebuild their lives.
Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, Saji Cherian, MLA, Chief Secretary Tom Jose, DGP Loknath Behera, Revenue Principal Secretary P.H. Kurian, District Collector S. Suhas, and District Police Chief S. Surendran accompanied him.
Mr. Vijayan, later arrived at the Police Parade ground in Alappuzha ahead of schedule, visited Lajnathul Muhammadiya Higher Secondary School instead of a planned visit to Leo XIII School.
He approached the inmates with a smiling face and asked a KG student Minnu Maria Thomas hailing from Pulinkunnu about her life at the camp. In a short visit, the Chief Minister promised all help to the flood-affected people.
He asked the inmates whether they faced any issues in the camp. “We are getting food, water, and everything,” people replied.
A few women told the Chief Minister that they lost their house, property, and documents. Mr. Vijayan said that submerged houses would be cleaned and the government would provide all help to reconstruct the houses destroyed in floods.
“The government will reissue all documents,” he added. He also urged the people to live like a family at the camp. Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman, K.C. Venugopal, MP, and others were present at the camp.
