The bowlers put up a comprehensive show as India thrashed England by 203 runs in the third Test at Trent Bridge. While all the bowlers picked wickets, Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show in the second innings as he picked his maiden fifer in England. Speaking to Ishant Sharma for BCCI.tv at the end of the game, Bumrah said that the idea was to keep enjoying himself in the middle and not worry too much about picking wickets.

“It feels really good (to be back after injury). We as a unit have bowled really well. There was pressure from both ends at all times. Sometimes you get a wicket and at other times the other bowler gets a wicket. But the idea is to ensure that we keep bowling well as a unit. When you are returning from an injury lay-off, you can sometimes try too hard. But I tried to ensure that I enjoy the return and get back into rhythm,” he smiled.

Bumrah said that returning after an injury lay-off is never easy and he had to work closely with the trainers even when he wasn’t playing. “It is pretty diffcult to be a fast bowler. What happens behind the camera doesn’t generally show. We train, we workout in the gym and we also run and these things help on days when you have to bowl long spells.

“Even when I was injured, I was in touch with the trainers and kept discussing ways in which I can keep training. I did running sessions on the treadmill. And when I came to England, I started training here and also started bowling. The attempt was to get into match rhythm,” he explained.

“You know that despite bowling long spells at the nets, the rhythm you need in a match is completely different. It took me some time to get into rhythm in the first innings. Sometimes what happens is that we try a bit too hard, but I was consciously trying to enjoy the game.”

Ishant on his part feels that knowing the plan and working on executing it has been the reason behind this unit’s success in the series. “This bowling unit knows the plans well. Whether the plan gets executed or not is something different, but we know where to bowl. It is important to know the plan. If we don’t know the plan itself, then it gets very difficult,” he said.

Ishant further added that the team remained in the present and didn’t let the loss in the second Test bother them.

“The first match was pretty close and in the second match conditions made it very difficult for us. But the idea was to not think too much about what happened and to focus on the present. We were confident that we can turn things around from any position. Also, as a bowling unit, if we can take 20 wickets in every game, that is a good things, irrespective of whether you take the wickets or Hardik Pandya does or I take five wickets,” he said.
