AHMEDABAD: An elderly man was beaten by a 20-year-old youth, allegedly because the former urinated in the open in the Chanakyapuri area of the city on Friday. The victim approached Sola police and lodged a complaint on Tuesday.
Ashok Maru (70) told police that he had a full bladder when he was going from his tailor’s shop near Chanakyapuri in Ghatlodia to his house in Thaltej Gaam, so he stood next to a wall and started urinating. A youth then approached him and started threatening and abusing him. When Maru objected to the abuse, the youth got a stick and started beating him.

Vishal Desai (20), a resident of Ghatlodia, was booked by Sola police for criminal assault, intimidation and uttering obscene words in public.

Maru suffered injuries to his shoulder and back as the youth used a stick on him despite him pleading.

Maru said he is a diabetic and of advanced age, due to which he has to urinate frequently. “My shop is 5km from my place in Thaltej but as there is no public toilet made by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on that stretch, I relieve myself at an open place. On Friday, I did this for which I was assaulted,” said Maru.

Inspector Gurpreetsingh Syan of Sola police station said the accused is yet to be arrested.
