NEW DELHI: A Hyundai Creta belonging to a station house officer was
snatched on Wednesday when his
son had parked it outside an apartment in Sector 23 of Dwarka. The victim, Sagar Chauhan, said that the carjacker had threatened to shoot him if he resisted his attempt to steal the vehicle.
Chauhan had parked the
car outside the DDA flats and gone inside to meet a friend. As he was going to return within a few minutes, he had left the car unlocked. When he returned, he found a youth, aged about 23, sitting in the driver’s seat. The thief allegedly pointed a pistol towards Chauhan and threatened to shoot him. He then took off with the car towards Sector 19.
The victim informed the police control room around 6pm. A police team soon reached the spot and recorded his statement. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify the thief. The video shows the criminal driving the car away at a high speed. The footage also shows Chauhan running inside the gate of the DDA flats to save himself.
A security guard near the gate and some others also tried to stop the car, but the thief threatened them as well.
The car is registered in the name
SHO (Naraina) Sunil Chauhan. Several teams have been formed to trace the vehicle that had a police sticker on the windshield. A case of robbery has been registered based on Sagar’s statement. Police suspect the role of some known autolifters in the area.
