Yanam flooded as Godavari water level rises

At least four villages inundated

The rise in water level the Godavari has caused flooding in the Yanam region, an enclave of Puducherry.

The resulting flood has caused inundation in at least four villages. Around 1000 people, have been moved to temporary shelters. Vast area of paddy under cultivation has been inundated, causing huge loss to farmers in the tiny enclave. Residents in low-lying areas faced severe hardship, said a government official.

Minister for Health Malladi Krishna Rao, who represents Yanam, along with Secretary to Government H.P.S. Sarn and other officials visited the rain affected areas.

Mr. Rao said he had already apprised the Chief Minister on the impact of the flood.
