Preparations for Rakhi festival in full swing

Since, the festival of Rakshabandhan is approaching near, the festivity has started gripping the State capital. The preparations for Rakhi are in its full swing.

The festival would be celebrated on Sunday. The markets are packed with different varieties of Rakhis, tempting chocolates and enormous ranges of sweets.

The festivals bring joy and a lot of contentment along with traditions and customs associated with them. Now the tradition with which rakhi is associated is that sister ties a thread on her brother’s wrist with brother giving a promise to protect her all her life.

The festival dedicated to love and affection between brothers and sisters have a lot of preparations to be made.

The markets are displaying different varieties of Rakhis for the tiny tots. Rakhis featuring Superman, Krrish, Bal Hanuman and Chhota Bheem are major attractions for kids this season.

“While choosing a Rakhi customers usually go with the colour and design of their preference and little girls want to buy the rakhi with favourite character of their brother,” says Kumar, a shopkeeper. The rates of such rakhis start from Rs 50 to 150. “I want to buy a Rakhi featuring Chhota Bheem, as my little brother is a big fan of Chota Bheem,” says Shweta, a buyer.

The glowing Rakhi, Rakhis featuring teddy-bear, car, mobile and mouse rakhis are a major pick-up among children. Some of the rakhis have been made of resham and zari threads and are decorated with different items like pearls, beads, stones, gems or imitation jewellery material.

“I prefer to buy a traditional rakhi beautifully decorated with gems and pearl.

This rakhi which I bought would definitely suit on my brother’s wrist,” says Shruti, another buyer. Raksha Bandhan is a festival of great happiness and no celebration is complete without sweets.
