Bhopal: Torrential rains paralyse normal life in state capital


Bhopal: Torrential rains paralysed normal life in two dozen colonies mostly in the Wall City in the state capital in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Bhopal recorded has 682.4mm rainfall so far while seasonal rainfall is 1086.6mm.

It rained continuously from 1.00am to 6.00am in Bhopal. Rain water gushed in houses of the heavily waterlogged residential colonies. Throughout the night residents remained busy in shifting their house hold items to safer place.

Worst affected localities  include Ashoka Garden, Bagh Farhat Afza, Umrao Dulha, Aishbag, Shiv Nagar, Safia College, Abhas Nagar, Bhopal Talkies, Hamidia Road, Pushpa Colony, DIG Bungalow,  Sindhi Colony, Jathkhedi (Hoshangabad Road) covering  many posh colonies like Ruchi Landscape, Golden City, RKDF College, Sri Ram Colony, Sneh Nagar.


Similarly, many plots were affected and heavily waterlogged in colonies of Kolar including Lalita Nagar, Katiyar Market. Kolar Road was also waterlogged. Rain affected mostly the low lying areas. Besides, trees fell down in various places including Shajahanabad, Char Imli, Shivaji Nagar, Professor Colony, Ayodhya Nagarm Saket Nagar disrupted power supply beginning mid night of Monday.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board (MPEB) team were deployed to remove fallen trees, clear traffic and restore power supply. The areas affected by load shedding include Shivaji Nagar, Tulsi Nagar, MP Nagar, Ashoka Garden, Professor Colony,  Saket Nagar, Tilajamalpura, Subhash Nagar, Bairagarh among others.

Minister Vishwas Sarang took stock of situation in various areas on bike including Ashoka Garden,  Maha Mai Ka Bag, Bagh Farhat Afza, Umrao Dulha, Aishbag, Sai Ram Colony, Semera, Dwarka Nagar. Along with district administration officials, Sarang distributed food packets among rain affected people.

Mayor Alok Sharma, Collector Sudam Khade, DIG Dharmendra Chaudhary, SP Hemant Chauhan, and other officials visited many rain affected areas and instructed the on ground staff to speed up rescue operations. Administration has also instructed for demolition of dilapidated houses in the state capital.

Residents dip mayor’s effigy in water

Last time, mayor Alok Sharma had staged a sit-in in Safia College locality to protest against water logging. However this time residents protested by dipping his effigy in rainwater as entire locality was waterlogged again.

8 families shifted

Eight families of Nehru Nagar (behind Sanjay Complex), have been shifted to Vajpayee Nagar and dilapidated houses have been demolished. Eight other families have been told to vacate the houses.  Besides, a culvert near RKDF College was dismantled for speedy exit of rainy water.
