Three youths from Bengaluru were killed and 10 were injured in an accident on Kunigal Road (NH 75) on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred near Tigalara Palya when the back left tyre of their SUV burst.
The vehicle flipped four times as it was flung over a distance of 100 metres before coming to a halt. All the 13 passengers in the SUV were residents of Hosakerehalli in Bengaluru. They were travelling to Nagamangala in Mandya district on a road trip.
Witnesses tried to extricate the passengers trapped in the mangled remains of the vehicle.
One person died on the spot owing to severe head injuries. The rest were taken to a nearby private hospital where two others, who had also sustained head wounds, succumbed. The deceased have been identified as Harish Rao, Ujwal and Rakshan, all aged 23.
The others sustained injuries, including fractures, but are out of danger, police said.
