A procession of an urn containing the ashes of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was taken out by the BJP today in Bhopal.
The urn was then put on a truck bedecked with flowers and was taken to the state BJP headquarters, a distance of around 15 kms, in a procession.
Apart from BJP leaders and workers, hundreds of common people joined the procession in different areas.
A BJP leader said the urn would be kept at the state party headquarters--Deendayal Parisar--here for the people to pay respect.
The ashes will be immersed into ten rivers in various parts of the state in the coming days.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah handed over urns containing the ashes to state unit chiefs of the party.
Vajpayee, 93, died at the AIIMS hospital in Delhi due to prolonged illness on August 16.
