LUCKNOW: For the fourth consecutive year, Shia and Sunni Muslims in Lucknow will offer joint namaz on Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) at the sprawling lawns of Shahnajaf Imambara on Wednesday morning.

It will be followed by an all community Eid Milan at the venue.

As an expression of solidarity and promoting peace, two special initiatives have also been undertaken.

First, Shia and Sunni women will also offer joint namaz at the venue.

Second, Eid Milan will be being managed by young volunteers from different religions, faiths and ideologies.

They will serve sewaiyan to the guests at the venue.

The joint namaz initiative was started in 2015 through a citizen driven platform, Shoulder to Shoulder (S2S) Foundation that works for peace and communal amity.

As a prelude to the namaz that will be offered in a Shia Imambara and the congregation be led by a Sunni Imam, a number of video invites were sent out by prominent citizens asking people to take part in the intitative.

While patron of the initiative, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, will be unable to attend the namaz due to ill health, representatives from other communities including Gurmeet Singh of Yahiyganj Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Father Donald D’Souza spokesperson of the Catholic Diocese of Lucknow, and Mahant Divyagiri, priestess of the Mankameshwar Mandir will be present for the event like previous years.

The event will be strung together by the thoughts and words of Ali Khan Mahmudabad.
