Raja Kandhola, main accused in synthetic drug racket case, has been acquitted in one of the cases against him, in which 34.5kg of methamphetamine (Ice) was seized by police. This was the first case against him in which police had claimed that drugs worth Rs 200 crore were seized.
The court of district and sessions judge S K Garg convicted two accused in the case while Kandhola and seven others have been acquitted for want of evidence.
Kandhola was named in the case registered under the NDPS Act at police station Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district in June 2012. Police had seized 34.5kg of methamphetamine, 19kg of ephedrine, which is used as a raw material and is used by pharmaceutical companies, from house of Sukhwinder Singh Laddu, who was the main accused in this case, in Garhshankar. Apart from Sukhwinder, three others were also arrested from there.
The court convicted Sukhwinder Singh and sentenced him to jail for five years while another accused Mandeep Singh was sentenced to three years while. “Rest of the eight accused have been acquitted,” said advocate Mandeep Singh Sachdeva who represented Kandhola in the case.
