Shocked to see his house ravaged by the flash floods last week, a 68-year-old person allegedly committed suicide at Kothad here on Wednesday.
According to the police, Rocky, who worked as a casual labourer, was found hanging inside his damaged house on Wednesday morning. He was forced to leave his house after the building began to get under floodwaters last week. He had been staying at a relief camp in the city till Tuesday.
“He left the camp on Tuesday along with his wife and children to clean up the house and was reportedly shocked to see the damage caused to his house by the raging waters. Even as other members of his family decided to shift to a relative’s house, Rocky refused to join them and insisted on staying at his house overnight,” the police said.
On Wednesday morning, when his neighbours came looking for Rocky, he was found hanging. Relatives said Rocky had not shown any sign of distress.
The body was cremated later in the evening after inquest proceedings. The police said the death would have taken place between 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. on Wednesday. A case for unnatural death was registered.
Rocky is survived by wife Suvarna, daughter Prajitha and sons Prajeesh and Sujeesh.
