Man burnt alive by son for refusing money

Greed for money drove a youth to kill his father by setting the latter on fire in the CDA Sector-6 area here.

While the shocking incident took place on Sunday, the youth was arrested after his mother lodged a complaint with the Markat Nagar police.

As per the complaint, Santosh Sahu, the accused, had on the fateful day asked his father Muralidhar Sahu, a staff of the Orissa High Court, to give him Rs 15 lakh. After his father refused to give him the money, Santosh took out petrol from a scooter and poured it on Muralidhar’s body and set his father ablaze. On being informed, Fire Services personnel reached the spot, rescued the victim and admitted him to a private hospital in the area.

However, Muralidhar succumbed to his burn injuries while undergoing treatment. Following his death, his wife lodged a police complaint against her son, on the basis of which he was arrested.
