Islamist fanatics

Sir — This refers to the article, “Barking up the wrong tree” (August 20) by Prafull Goradia. As the article has underlined, the Muslim League headed by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, urged an exchange of population. Jawaharlal Nehru refused but Rajendra Prasad, our President for two terms, suggested that those Muslims who could not emigrate, could stay in India.

But, it is tragic that Pakistan implemented Hindu-Sikh migration unilaterally, reducing their population from 10-12 per cent in 1947 to two to three per cent at present.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Deputy grand Mufti of Srinagar, Nasir-ul Islam, insisted on Darul Qaza (Shariah courts) and former even demanded to know the number of Muslims in Indian Armed Force. Mufti even went to the extent of threatening that if the demand was not conceded, Muslims would be justified in asking for another Pakistan. Owaisi heads a party that was in the vanguard of the Hyderabad Nizam’s movement to join Pakistan. Although Owaisi is a Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, his thinking and policies are provocative. Such radical, fanatic Islamist mindsets have no place in our country.
