Toilets of North Delhi get makeover

One of the most common sights in old Delhi are toilets that are so poorly maintained that people opt to urinate in public. However, things are gradually changing there.

Now people can see words ‘Respect’, ‘Responsibility’ and ‘Kindness’ painted on the wall of urinals in old Delhi. Two urinals at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg near Old Delhi Railway Station are already painted with artworks.

North Delhi Municipal Corporation has undertaken the task for the beautification of public urinals and toilets in collaboration with NGO. Under the project, around 100 toilets will be beautified and cleaned in the first phase. Senior officials claimed that RWAs and Market Association are also a part of the project.

“Our Federation is a Non – Profit registered organisation under Society Registration Act, 1860 and it is group of several Resident Welfare Associations operating in Walled City, Delhi. The Walled City, Delhi in present scenario has become so multipolar that interest and welfare of residents cannot be solely redressed by Resident Welfare Association. For this reason, we have grouped different Resident Welfare Associations of Walled City, Delhi so we can effectively put the problems of residents to different authorities,” said Dheeraj Dubey, president of the Walled City Residential Federation.

This unique effort to paint promotes government’s “Swachch Bharat” initiative.
