Kerala floods: Jalandhar Gurudwara to contribute 10,000 blankets

JALANDHAR: Jalandhar residents on Tuesday committed support of around cash and kind worth Rs 30 lakh within 25 minutes for Kerala flood victims in a meeting convened by Jalandhar deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Tuesday.
As soon as DC ended his speech in a meeting in which NGOs, local businessmen etc were invited, a large number of philanthropists and social workers rose up to help the distressed residents of the marooned state. Management committee of Gurdwara Singh Sabha Model Town announced that they would provide more than 10,000 blankets for the people of flood affected state.

The CBSE affiliated schools Management association announced cash aide of Rs one lakh besides one day salary of all employees of schools and two trucks of essential commodities required in Kerala. In the same manner director of Savi International Mukul Verma also announced a financial assistance of Rs two lakh and clothes for babies worth Rs 50, 000. Several other prominent businessmen also committed contributions.

Meanwhile, the DC said that all these assistance would be routed through the District Red Cross Society, which would set up collection centre in its premises. Mr Sharma said that need of hour was that immediate help was provided to people in Kerala so people desirous of making the contributions must make it within 48 hours, so that it could be immediately sent to Kerala.
