2019 Audi A6 Wants To Attract U.S. Buyers With A Slew Of Hi-Tech Features

Audi‘s eighth-generation A6 is about ready to make the mid-size luxury sedan segment a lot more competitive in the U.S. Compared to its predecessor, the new car is said to drive better and provide more comfort, while also offering a wide range of new technologies.

The new A6 is also larger than the older model, measuring 16.2 feet (4,939 mm) in length, 6.2 feet (1,886 mm) in width and 4.8 feet (1,457 mm) in height, with a wheelbase that spans 9.5 feet (2,924 mm).

Aside from its modern exterior, the 2019 A6 comes packed with features such as Audi Virtual Cockpit, Audi Phone Box, a full color head-up display (standard on Prestige models), standard smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and audio systems from Bang & Olufsen available on every spec.

Speaking of specs, there are three in total. The entry-level Premium starts from $58,900, whereas the Premium Plus and the Prestige cost $62,700 and $67,100 respectively. All prices exclude the $995 destination charge.

Exterior highlights include the standard S-line kit (sporty bumper, dark chrome matte diffuser, dark chrome matte grille with aluminum slats, platinum gray lower air inlets and S-line badging), 19-inch 5-double spoke bi-color alloys (21-inch 10-Y-spoke ones are optional), and heated, auto-dimming, manual-folding side mirrors with memory. There’s also a hands free trunk release which you activate with a kicking motion, like in many new SUVs.

Three headlight systems are available for the 2019 A6. The Premium version gets LED lights with LED DRLs as standard. Go for the Premium Plus and you’ll get Matrix LEDs with high-beam assist for no extra cost, while the flagship Prestige gets HD Matrix LEDs with dynamic indicators and high-beam assistant.

Inside, features such as the three-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, leather seats with contrast stitching, heated eight-way power front seats, dark brown Walnut wood inlays or the interior lighting package are all standard.

As for driver assistance features, these include adaptive cruise control, Audi pre-sense city, a Top view camera system, intersection assist, turn assist and traffic sign recognition. Audi side assist and pre-sense rear are both standard on the Premium Plus and Prestige, whereas vehicle exit warning and rear cross traffic assist are part of Audi side assist.

Powering Audi’s latest A6 is a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 with 335 HP (340 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. In a straight line, it can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in a brisk 5.1 seconds.
