Road links to Velagapudi snapped

Several rivulets in the district are in spate following the persistent rain over the last few days. Road traffic between Tadikonda and Thullur was stopped as the overflowing Kottella Vagu entered Pedaparimi village on the Guntur-Thullur road on Monday morning.

Employees heading to the Secretariat at Velagapudi were stranded for some time, till the minor irrigation engineers restored the roads by diverting the waters. The floodwaters started to recede by evening providing some relief.

Floodwaters from Kondaveeti Vagu inundated fields at Narakallupadu, Yendraye, Pedamadduru villages and road links between Amaravathi and Krosuru were snapped. As a precautionery measure, boats were stopped at Rayapudi.

All the mandals in the district received good rainfall with Amaravathi mandal recording 11.5 cm rain. The mandals of Atchempet, Tadepalli, Mangalagiri, Tadikonda, Piduguralla received excess rainfall.

Water levels at Nagarjuna Sagar reached 545.8 feet as an inflow of 2 lakh cusecs was recorded by evening. Of the 57 mandals, 17 received excess rainfall while 40 received normal rainfall.

With predictions of more rain in the coming days, District Collector Kona Sasidhar asked people to be careful about staying in dilapadated buildings and low lying areas.
