Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull survives party leadership challenge; wins 48-35 against Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton
Tuesday, 21 August 2018 () Malcolm Turnbull, considered a moderate, declared his position vacant at the Liberal Party meeting to force the issue after rampant speculation that the more hardline Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton wanted his job. The result of that ballot was that Turnbull was elected as leader of the Liberal Party by a margin of 48-35.
