Mehak Lobo, 14, fresh from her exploits with the victorious Indian team that won the SAFF U-15 Championship in Bhutan, showed her class by scoring three goals in Apostolic Carmel's (Bandra) 4-0 win over Dhirubhai Ambani (BKC) in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised girls' U-16 Division I quarter-final at Azad Maidan yesterday. Striker Mehak, who returned home late Sunday evening, turned up with her teammates for their early morning tie yesterday.
She instantly made her presence as she scored the first goal in the sixth minute. Four minutes later, she struck her second and the team's third goal. In between, skipper Riya D'Souza netted the second goal as the Bandra girls went into the break leading 3-0. Switching sides, Mehak was again on target scoring the fourth to round off the game. Speaking to mid-day after the match, Mehak credited her teammates for the support.
"It was a good team effort and we won because of them [teammates]. "They provided good support with passes from the back and midfield and I succeeded in capitalising on the openings," a humble Mehak said.
