The number of relief camps has come down to 81 in the district. More than 70 camps that functioned in the limits of Kozhikode, Thamarassery, Koyilandy and Vadakara taluks were closed on Monday after the District Collector’s review meeting with Revenue Department authorities.
As of now, around 10,000 people from around 3,000 families are staying in relief camps. Majority of them are likely to go home on completion of the ongoing cleaning drive under the leadership of local bodies and volunteers. Also, effort is on to repair damaged houses sourcing public contributions.
Revenue Department officials say support is mainly needed for the worst-hit families in Puthuppadi and Kattippara panchayats.
At Kannappankundu in Puthuppadi, immediate rehabilitation is needed for six families whose houses were destroyed in a landslip. About 30 other houses have been severely damaged in the area. Similarly, families hit by Karinchola landslip too are in need of immediate rehabilitation. Most of them are now staying in houses of their relatives.
Grama panchayat officials say the collection of fund for their rehabilitation is in the final phase.
Large number of Non-resident Kerala families have come in support of the cause. Now, there are over 4,000 volunteers ready with the district administration to carry out the first phase of rehabilitation works.
