Indore: Amidst high drama, IIPS students get permission to hold Fiesta

Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on Friday allowed students of International Institute of Professional Studies (IIPS) to hold Fiesta, the annual marketing and cultural festival. For past two days, the university administration and IIPS students were at loggerheads over the fest.

While students wanted to hold the fest in their institute campus next month, the university administration was not ready to provide space for it inside the institute premises. “The institute’s annual fest is Expression and not Fiesta. But we have no objection provided students hold it outside the institute’s premises. We can’t take responsibility of managing any event, which is not an official event,” said IIPS director AK Sapre.

As tempers ran high, students didn’t attend classes and staged protest on the campus. On learning about the protest, police and SDM Ravish Shrivastava reached campus to intervene but students did not budge. A delegation of students called on vice-chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad who allowed the students to hold the fest near ICH on UTD campus but students insisted on holding it inside the institute premises. The stand-off ended only when executive council member Alok Dawar mediated. The students agreed to hold fest in October.
