One flight cancelled, 16 delayed

MOHALI: Poor visibility affected the arrival and departure of flights at the Chandigarh international airport on Monday. One flight was cancelled and another diverted back to Delhi. A total of 16 flights were delayed.
The SpiceJet flight (SG-2831) from Delhi was diverted back and later cancelled. According to airport officials, the visibility dropped to 800 metres and remained 1,200 meters before improving after 10.30 am.

Private flight operators said they are waiting for the installation of CAT-ILS-III, an advanced instrument landing system which will enable flights to land in zero visibility at the airport.

Passengers had to wait for hours for the flight operations to resume. Jagdish Kumar, a resident of Sector 15, said he had to wait for four hours to take a flight to Delhi.

An IndiGo flight from Delhi was delayed by over 4.23 hours and subsequently departed late by 5 hours. The flight had scheduled arrival of 7.25 am and arrived at 11.48 am and later departed at 1.13 pm against the scheduled departure of 7.55 am.

The Air India morning flight from Delhi with scheduled arrival of 6.55 am arrived at 11.22 am after it was diverted back to Delhi. Air India airport manager M R Jindal said, "The visibility dropped to 800 meters because of which Delhi flight was diverted back to Delhi and was later rescheduled and landed at 11:48 am. Air India's other flights were also delayed."
