Name: Antony
Age: 30
Hometown: London
Job: Banker
The Sun reports that Antony grew up in India, where he learned to bake with his father.
“All of my friends back home in India will be really surprised I'm on GBBO,” he said. “They have known me to be a singer in a choir, a two-piece band, but never as a baker, so it will be interesting to see their reaction.”
The full list of contestants for this year’s Great British Bake Off has just been revealed. The new contestants include a banker (pictured above), a blood courier, a research scientist and a retired air steward.
The hotly anticipated series returns to Channel 4 at 8pm on 28 August – the show’s second series on the channel after seven years on BBC One.
Thankfully not much has changed since the last series. Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be judging the 12 contestants’ bakes, while Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will return as presenters.
The youngest baker on the show this year is 26-year-old Manon, who is based in London, while the oldest is Karen, a 60-year-old in-store sampling assistant from West Yorkshire.
The Independent reports that Sophie Faldo, who was crowned winner of last year's competition, has enjoyed “continued success” ever since, working as a pastry chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant and becoming an ambassador for Great Ormond Street Hospital, so who knows what’s in store for this year’s lucky winner.
