LUDHIANA: The Special Task Force's (STF) Ludhiana Unit has arrested a former gym trainer and sized heroin worth Rs 50 lakh from his possession on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Paramjeet Singh (30), of Gopal Nagar.
The arrest came following a tip-off from a checkpoint established in Rajiv Gandhi Colony.
The accused was crossing by the area when he was stopped by the police. On further checking the police recovered 100g heroin from his scooter.
The in-charge at STF- Ludhiana Harbans Singh said that the accused is a school drop-out. He has studied till Class 5 only. He became gym trainer about seven years ago.
“The accused has confessed that at gym he met a man who brought him into drugs. He became addicted, however, his salary was insufficient to meet the expenses. Then following the influence of same man, Paramjeet started drug peddling. His first deal was fixed in the gym. The man delivered heroin to Paramjeet inside gym and further also told the address of a customer for delivery,” added SI.
The official said that, when Paramjeet started earning well from drug peddling, he quit his job a couple of months ago.
SI Harbans Singh said, “The accused was smart enough to not use his own vehicle for drug peddling. Paramjeet has confessed that for delivery of contraband, he used to book Ola cab so that his customers could not note the vehicle registration number. Moreover he used to change the location while booking the cab. Today, he was coming after procuring the heroin on his scooter when STF nabbed him.”
The official said that the police are tracing the smuggler who used to supply contraband to Paramjeet.
