The Army stepped in to overhaul the transformer of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA)’s main substation at the Aluva water treatment plant on Monday.

A 10-member team from the120 Engineer Regiment, Pune, led by Major Ravishankar H.N., started the repair work at the KWA plant, which supplies drinking water to the city and the nearby areas

The team was called in by the District Collector and the KWA Managing Director to take up the emergency work to restore the water supply that was disrupted when the Periyar river water entered the pump house last week.

The team also assisted the KWA to repair a pump house at Pazhoor. On Tuesday, they would go to Choondi to undertake the work at the Ramamangalam plant.

The Armymen had retrieved the bodies of six persons killed in the floods at Kuthiyathode, near Paravur, before taking up the pump house works.

The regiment of Major Ravishankar is part of 475 Engineer Brigade, Nasirabad, Rajasthan.
