NEW DELHI: A security guard posted at the Defence Colony branch of a bank opened fire with his rifle and injured a customer on Tuesday afternoon. The accused got into an argument with the bank manager and allegedly tried to point the weapon at him. However, when the gun went off, the pellets hit the customer in his back and shoulder. The guard, a former Armyman, has been arrested.

DCP (south) Romil Baaniya said that around 1.30pm Vijaya Bank officials informed that a customer named Rajendra Singh had been injured in an incident. A police team from Defence Colony police station took the injured man to Moolchand Hospital. The accused, Rudra Pal Singh, was detained. Cops found six 12 bore cartridges in the rifle.

Rudra Pal claimed that the weapon had gone off accidentally, but some employees of the bank alleged that he got into an argument with the manager during which he pointed the rifle at him and pressed the trigger.

The manager and other bank employees will also be questioned. Police said that video footage recovered from the bank does not show an argument between the guard and the employees. Rajendra was discharged after doctors surgically removed the pellets from his back and shoulder.
