Cottingham Road Bridge Closure Extended

The bridge has been closed to motorists since January to allow Network Rail engineers to raise the bridge to allow for the safe clearance of overhead line equipment. This work is part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade, which will see the line electrified from London to Bedford via Kettering and Corby.

The road bridge was due to reopen at the end of August, however additional support work is needed to the footpath adjacent to the bridge meaning the road closure has been extended. Pedestrian access will be maintained through a temporary footbridge.

Kevin Newman, Senior Sponsor at Network Rail, said: “Firstly, we’d like to apologise for the delay in reopening this bridge. We understand that this work has caused disruption to the town and we’re sorry for the impact that this is having.

“We’re working as hard as we can to keep disruption to a minimum and we are looking at the possibility of getting the road partially reopened before the end of September.

“We’d like to thank residents for their patience whilst we complete this vital upgrade.”
