A Competency Based Evaluation Test (CBET) would be now compulsory for 200-odd medical practitioners engaged in performing Ultrasound of patients on the basis of experiences in Uttarakhand. The doctors would have to undergo a six- month course at an authorized medical college in order to become eligible for CBET. These doctors would have to clear this test before December 31, 2019.

A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting on Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Act (PC-PNDT) Act-1994 held at the State health directorate on Monday. The meeting was chaired by director general (DG) medical health and family welfare, Dr T C Pant. It was decided  during the meeting that the six- month-course would be conducted in the two medical colleges (Government Medical College Haldwani and Himalayan Medical College Jollygrant) of the State where the course is approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The DG said that the question paper of the CBET would be based on curriculum and syllabus of PC-PNDT Act of 1994. He added that every medical practitioner performing Ultrasound on the basis of experiences would be allowed two attempts to clear the CBET. Dr Pant clarified that the certificate of CBET issued by other States would also be applicable in Uttarakhand.

The meeting was attended among others by State designated officer PC–PNDT Dr Anjali Nautiyal, State nodal officer PC-PNDT and additional director Dr Saroj Naithani.
