Will not compromise on reality in cinema: Harshvardhan Kapoor

Two-film old Harshvardhan Kapoor says he believes in ensuring his work mirrors “authenticity” and it is something that he will never compromise on. The actor, who will next be seen playing the role of Abhinav Bindra, says the biopic on the Olympic gold medallist will be an “honest” portrayal of the subject .

No compromise

“I don’t compromise and I try to do things as close to real as possible. And the Bindra biopic will follow the same template which is why it has taken us so long to get the film together because we have tried to be honest,” Harshvardhan said.

The actor, who was last seen in Vikramaditya Motwane’s “Bhavesh Joshi Superhero”, says both of his films till date are “real and original” pieces of work. “… There is no fluff. The Bindra biopic will follow the same template. That is why for me making movies is a more time-consuming process because I really believe in authenticity,” he adds.

Authenticity matters

Harshvardhan made his Bollywood debut with 2016’s “Mirzya”, which like his last release did not do well at the box office. His performance was, however, was appreciated by the critics. The actor is realistic when it comes to the mercurial nature of the trade and says he cannot predict how his films will fare at the ticket window. He, however, adds, “But when you watch my movie, I can promise you one thing that it is going to be different from anything you have ever seen before. It is the same  with Bindra. It is going to be very authentic to who is he as a person and he is very unique man and he has had a very unique journey so looking forward to another original film. One thing that I can promise you is it’s very true to who he is for sure.”

No remakes please

Harshvardhan Kapoor has his goals set when it comes to choosing films — a script that reads new to him. He says that he is not here to revamp movies that others have been doing for long. “I feel like doing films basis whatever inspires me on the page. I am not here to do movies that others have been doing for a long time and repackage, revamp the same and present it to the audience. I am here to do new films, and if I read something on the page that I have never read before… that gets me going to ‘want’ to do it. I want to do new things,” Harshvardhan said.

He also said that a low budget well scripted film will be his first choice. “I think it is always about the sincerity and honesty with which you do something. You should never attempt to do something average, it can be bad or good, but at least you know you tried to do something different,” said the son of actor Anil Kapoor.

Daddy’s help

So how often does he take his father’s advice while selecting roles? “I always take his advice and talk to him about film choices on a daily basis. However, when you say yes to a film, you have to be on set and believe in it yourself. The belief is very important and eventually my choices are always mine,” he said.
