A 26-year-old man who allegedly borrowed money from his friends but was unable to pay it back, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his room on the premises of a church located at Khan Market. The brother of the deceased alleged friends for harassing him over the money he had borrowed from them.

According to police, the deceased is identified as Ruban. “On Friday morning Ruban was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a servant quarter in Vailankanni Church. No suicide note was found at the spot,” said  a police official.

“After the deceased did not respond to the knocking of the door, Ruban's mother sounded the alarm following which some employees in church came to the house and found Ruban hanging inside the room,” said a police official.

Ruban's mother and his cousin brother Marx Mathew have alleged that the Ruban was forced to take extreme step as his friends were harassing him over the money he had borrowed. Ruban's parents work in the church in Khan Market and he is survived by his wife and two minor sons.

“We have handed over the body to family after autopsy was conducted. We are awaiting the post-mortem report. We are trying to ascertain the reason for the death and investigating the case from all possible angles, keeping in mind the allegations by the family,” said a senior police official.
