Govt safeguarding mastermind in Dabholkar case, says Chavan

Pune: On the background of the recent arrest in connection with  Dr Narendra Dabholkar’s murder, the Congress demanded a ban on Sanatan Sanstha on Monday in Pune. 

At a press conference,  senior Congress leader and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan demanded a ban on Sanatan Sanstha and alleged that the State government is safeguarding the mastermind in the murder case.

He said, “During my chief minister tenure, I sent a proposal to the Union home ministry to ban Sanatan Sanstha on the background of Goa and Maharashtra incidents. Different people demanded a ban on Sanatan Sanstha. Based on that, the State home ministry made a proposal. We sent the proposal to ban on Sanatan and related organisation.”

He said, “There is act to ban any organisation under the Unlawful Activities ( Prevention) Act. It has certain procedure to follow. Whenever the Union government asked for information regarding ban, we provided. In 2013, We sent 1,000 pages dossier. So, it was decision of Union government. Dabholkar was murdered in April 2013, situation changed.  There is chain. State and Union government should have cleared their stand.” 

“The murderer of Dabholkar was not found after five years. Now, CBI has arrested persons. Every time, direction of investigation  is changing. The government is not telling what happened with earlier arrest. Every time, new persons are arrested and government started fresh investigation. Till date, many people were arrested but we don’t find clues. Now, we are hoping the government will solve the case,” he added.
