Cyber crime graph rising in Gwalior

| | Gwalior | in Bhopal

The figures available with the cyber cell of the Gwalior police reveals that the number of cyber crime cases registered in the city has been steadily rising in the past couple of years. There has been a rise of 30 per cent in the cyber-crimes during the past six months alone.

This number is despite the fact that many cyber-crimes of a minor nature rarely get registered. The ground reality is that cyber abuse are very much on the rise in the city, but the number of cases that are reported are very few because people prefer to either ignore them for fear of the legal tangles, or find their own ways to handle the situation.

This trend among the people is only encouraging the culprits to indulge in such crimes, especially those who send obscene messages to girls and women.

In the cases of obscene publications, threatening in various social media and bank frauds Gwalior has left behind even the state capital.

The web of cyber frauds where swindlers pausing as bank and insurance officials call people to get their passwords and Aadhar card numbers has been spreading in the city. In frauds related to phishing the caller claiming to be from a bank or an insurance company seeks personal details and takes out money from the customer’s account with the data. Many cases of crooks cloning the credit and debit cards of people too have been reported. There have also been a few cases of hacking the ATMs through hacker devices.

People who make digital transactions are at a greater risk because online transactions are always vulnerable to cyber fraud. Data, like CCV number and the OTPs get saved in the company’s server and cyber criminals find ways to get access to such data.

In most of the cases the cyber cell of the police is clueless as the masterminds of such crimes are innovative adopting advanced methods to dupe people. While the cyber-crooks are innovating, adapting and getting trickier, the cyber police seem to be stuck up in the conventional methods to tackle the situation.
