Shabri river flowing above danger mark

With incessant rainfall experienced during the last couple of days, Shabri river is flowing above the danger mark while generating the possibility of flood in the Konta region of Dantewada district.

The National Highway which joins Konta with Andhra Pradesh was cut off near Veerapuram due to the heavy rainfall, officials informed.

Notably, a similar situation prevailed a week ago when people from Purani Basti of Konta and Ashrams of inundated areas were vacated and rehabilitation of affected was done in relief camps. The residents shifted were being provided food, drinking water and other arrangements in camps. When the water level of the river receded, people felt a sigh of relief and returned to their locations. Village Kotra under Chindgarh block was also cut off after the Shabri river started to swell. The residents were rescued by the administration team of Janpad, Revenue and Education Department officers and employees.

Now once again, a similar situation is persisting and the water level in the Shabri River has crossed the danger mark. Apart from National Highway joining Konta with Andhra Pradesh, water on  the Sukma-Konta route was also flowing over the bridges.

 Keeping in view the flood situation, the administration is well prepared this time and officials interacting with residents have instructed them to consume water after mixing chlorine tablets, take care of food and after assessing the situation of water level in their residences, can shift to camp, officials informed.

As per reports coming in Godawari dam in Odisha, the water level has risen due to which the Shabri river water is taking reserve turn causing flooding in the river. The report States that water is flowing six feet above the Malkangiri bridge.
