Bhopal hostel rape horror: Officials not cooperating with SIT, giving incomplete documents

Bhopal: The officials of social justice and disability welfare department are not cooperating with SIT probing into the rape and molestation of deaf and mute girls. Police had arrested hostel director Ashwini Sharma and formed an SIT to investigate the case.

It has been alleged that accused’s NGO ‘Kritharth’ is not a registered organisation but even then it continued receiving funds to run hostels for boys and girls. Seeking an explanation, SIT had summoned the officials the department to present the financial details of the NGO.

On Monday only one official from the department appeared before the investigating team that too with incomplete documents. SIT in-charge SP Rahul Kumar Lodho said that they had issued notice to department seeking all related documents, however, it submitted only a few papers.

On Monday only one official from the department appeared before the SIT and presented papers which lacked desired information, informed the officer. The SP informed that as soon as the documentation is completed they would file a charge sheet in the court; that would probably be by end of the week.

Sources claimed that department officials are hiding the information pertaining to financial transactions as it may bring to light many irregularities and a new probe will have to be instituted to look into it. The papers submitted to the SIT till date are incomplete and even department officials are avoiding getting their statement recorded.

On August 8, a hearing-and-speech impaired girl of Dhar had filed a rape complaint against her hostel director Ashwini Sharma. Later, in Indore, two more girls came forward and approached police accusing Sharma of molesting them. Bhopal police had formed an SIT to look into the allegations.
