Nokia 7 Plus to get Android 9 Pie update early September, confirms HMD Global

The announcement was made during the launch event of the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus in India. Other Nokia phones will get the Android 9 update after the Nokia 7 Plus.

At the launch of the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus in India, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas, announced that the Nokia range of devices will soon receive a piece of the pie, namely Android 9 Pie. Although Sarvikas did not announce an exact date for when the update will hit existing Nokia devices, he confirmed that the Nokia 7 Plus will be the first Nokia phone to get the Android Pie update sometime early September, closely followed by other Nokia smartphones. Sarvikas also said that Android Pie’s Digital Wellbeing feature will first become available on Android One devices, so by design, all Nokia phones will get the feature before other Android devices thanks to their Android One lineage.

The Digital Wellbeing feature was not released with the final build of Android 9 Pie and will be made available later in the fall. Google says that Digital Wellbeing will first officially launch on Pixel phones this fall, with Android One and other devices due to get it later this year. But, the feature is available in beta for Pixel phones running Android 9. Here’s what you need to do to try it out:

  1. Make sure you’re running Android 9 Pie on your device.

  2. Accept your invitation to become a beta tester by clicking the link in your welcome email.

Once you’ve accepted your invitation, Digital Wellbeing will appear in your phone’s Settings app. It may take up to 24 hours for Digital Wellbeing to appear on your device.
