School van plunges into canal in K’pada

As many as 14 children and a teacher of a private school had a close shave, after the school van in which they were travelling overturned into a canal near Laxminarayanpur in Rajnagar area of the district on Monday morning.

The students and teacher belonging to St Xavier Public School escaped with minor injuries.

Reports said the incident occurred at around 11 am when the driver of the school van lost control over the vehicle following which it overturned and plunged into a roadside canal.

Soon after the mishap, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the 14 students and the teacher trapped inside the van.

The locals also detained the van blaming him for the mishap.

Later on getting information, police reached the spot and pacified the irate crowd following which they released the driver, sources said.
