The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) signed a memorandum of understanding with seven technical universities of Ghana, here on Monday.
A statement issued here said that the Ghanaian delegation, comprising senior officials of the universities, was led by Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, Interim Vice-Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University.
The collaborations are an outcome of the recent visit and deliberations Ghana’s Foreign Minister Shirley Botchwey had with officials of Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. Having acquired the ‘Institute of Eminence’ tag in July 2018, MAHE was the first choice of the seven Ghanaian universities. The delegation is led by ICARE, a University Rankings and Ratings agency.
The agreement between MAHE and the Ghanaian universities is to jointly undertake student and faculty exchange, organise study tours, conduct summer school programmes and more importantly undertake joint research in areas relevant to both Ghana and India.
“Our engagement with Ghana is more substantial in the new millennium because of two reasons: the transformation of India as a leading emerging economy and the political and economic resurgence of Ghana. MAHE commits to, first, continue and deepen its engagement with Ghana. Secondly, with a legacy of over 50 years in Higher Education and as India’s finest multi-disciplinary Universities, our partnership will be guided by Ghana’s priorities of building an educated, skilled and confident society, equipped with global competencies.” said H. Vinod Bhat, MAHE, Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Bhat signed the memoranda. P.L.N.G. Rao and Poornima Baliga, Pro Vice-Chancellors; Raghu Radhakrishnan, director, International Affairs and Collaboration; Aparna I.N., director, Planning and Monitoring, were present.
The Ghanaian universities were represented by Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah; Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, Rector, Bolgatanga Polytechnic; Edmund Enyonam Kwaku Ameko, Interim Vice-Chancellor, Accra Technical University; Nicholas Apreh Siaw, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Koforidua Technical University; Sarah Darkwa, IMC Chairman Cape Coast Polytechni; George Asumadu, Dean of Business School, Kumasi Tech University; and John Frank Eshun, Interim Vice Chancellor, Takoradi Technical University.
