The committee spearheading the campaign seeking justice for Sahib, a truck driver shot dead during police raid in Nuh, on Monday decided to bury the body after two-week-long protests.
Former Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed, who is on the 31-member committee, said the decision to bury the body was taken in view of Bakri Eid two days later.
He said the body was kept at a mortuary at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, where the post-mortem was conducted.
‘Buried on Tuesday’
“The body will be brought to Nuh on Monday night and most probably buried on Tuesday. The decision will be taken keeping in view the condition of the body,” said Mr. Ahmed.
Besides, the committee members have decided to make contributions among themselves and give ₹10 lakh to the family of the deceased. Mr. Ahmed said a team was also constituted to pursue the case in the court. “A large demonstration will also be held at mini-secretariat at Nuh on Friday [August 24],” he said.
A day-long dharna was also held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday in this connection. Sahib was killed on being hit by a bullet when the Uttarakhand police and the Nuh police carried out a joint raid at Patakpur village on August 7 to arrest Sabbir, who was wanted in connection with a burglary case in Dehradun.
The police have claimed that the villagers, armed with illegal weapons and bricks, attacked the raiding team and Sahib was caught in the crossfire as the police team also fired in retaliation.
The police maintained that it was not clear as to who fired the bullet killing Sahib and registered an FIR on murder charges against unknown people. But the locals alleged that he was shot by the police.
