The Treasury Department on Tuesday sanctioning two firms and two individuals for trying to help a Russian business get around prior sanctions. The Russian firm, Divetechnoservices, had been sanctioned in June for procuring underwater equipment for Russia's Federal Security Service. To get around the sanctions, the Russian company enlisted Vela-Marine Ltd. and Lacno S.R.O, which is based in Slovakia to buy needed supplies, Treasury said. As a result, these two firms and two Divetechnoservices employees have been sanctioned. "Today's action against these deceptive actors is critical to ensure that the public is aware of the tactics undertaken by designated parties and that these actors remain blocked from the U.S. financial system," said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, in a statement.
