Four cattle-laden trucks detained in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: As many as four trucks allegedly engaged in illegal transportation of cattle were detained by locals near the Gondia bus-stand in Dhenkanal district on Sunday. About 150 cattle were being transported to Kolkata by the vehicles, reports said, adding that the drivers of the trucks fled the spot after the detention of the vehicles. On being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation. More details awaited.

B’pur Rotary Club holds awareness rally

Brahmapur: The Rotary Club of Brahmapur organised an awareness rally on theme ‘No Plastic and Go Green’ here on Saturday which was flagged off by Additional SP Santanu Dash. The aim of the rally was to create awareness among people to boycott the use of plastic and make the environment clean. The members also distributed cotton bags. Students of the St Vincent’s Convent School performed a street drama urging people to boycott plastic. Among others, club president Srinivas Prusty, secretary Satyakam Patro, Mihir Ranjan Panigrahi, V Santosh Kumar and St Vincent’s Convent School Principal Sister Manthi were present.

B’pur Sishu Mandir holds Vajpayee condolence meet

Brahmapur: The Sishu Vidya Mandir Neelakantha Nagar organised a condolence meeting for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here on Saturday. School Managing Committee secretary Sudarsan Padhy, advisor Harekrushna Padhy, Sishu Mandir Headmaster Umamadhav Mohanty, Vidya Mandir Principal S Mohan Rao, Dr Rati Ranjan Panda, Sameer Barik, Monalisa Padhy, Kalpana Mishra and Rabindranath Jena and others paid tributes to the departed leader. The Ganjam BJP unit also held a meeting where district president Kanhu Charan Pati and many scribes, leaders, poet and others paid tributes. A candle march was also organised by the members.

CIFA sensitises Ganjam villagers on carp hatchery

Brahmapur: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research — Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA) and the State Fisheries Department jointly conducted a four-day training programme on FRP carp hatchery in Ambapur village under Digapahandi block and Daseipur village und Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district recently. As many as 120 tribal beneficiaries, including 84 women, participated. They were trained on FRP carp hatchery operation for brood fish selection, fish seed production and spawn collection. DST project Principal Investigator BC Mohapatra, ICAR-CIFA Principal and Digapahandi AFO NK Moharana coordinated the programme.

I-Day celebrated at ‘Udayabata’

Jajpur Road: The 72th Independence Day was celebrated at “Udayabata” with much enthusiasm. Jajpur Road PS IIC Amitav Mohapatra unfurled the National Flag. Durlabh Kala Parishad artist Bharat Bhusan and his group sang the National Anthem. A meeting was also held under chairmanship of Udayabata” editor Dusmant Rout. There was free distribution of flower-bearing saplings, LPG cylinders, furnaces and appliances on the occasion. Among others, scribe Harsa Bardhan Behera, Chandramani Samal, Dr Akshaya Panda, Brajeswar Singh, Suresh Hota, Bidyutprava Ray, Niranjan Ghadai, Arun Das, Upendra Mohanty, Suman Ray, Abhiram Parida and Basant Patra participated in the programme.

Prof Rao gets Prakruti Bandhu award

Paralakhemundi: Paralakhemundi Centurion University Vice-President  Prof DN Rao got the Prakruti Bandhu award for the year 2017/18. On the occasion of the Gajapati district-level Independence Day ceremony, Collector Anupam Saha presented the award to Prof Rao.

Ganjam Ex-Sr Clerk gets 2-yr RI for graft

Cuttack: Court of Special Judge, Vigilance convicted Buguda Tehsil office former Senior Clerk-Cum-Nazir Hara Mohan Patnaik for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs.1,600 and awarded him to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment (RI). The court also asked his to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 failing which he would undergo more two months RI. He was undergoing trial for taking bribe from complainant Dhoba Pradhan of Jeak village in Ganjam for issuance of Patta.
