Google pulls this feature from Android smartphones

Few days ago, Google was said to have started rolling out an update to its Messages app that not just brought the ‘Material Design’ theme but also introduced a new ‘Dark Mode’. But it looks like many have still not received the new look as Google may have pulled back the feature. The update brought the Messages app version to 3.5.
The update, which also ditched the blue bar at the top and introduced the company’s own Google Sans font, was said to be a server-side update. But according to some users on Reddit, the update’s Dark Mode was pulled even if the app was updated to v3.5.
“I updated the messages app earlier today and turned in the dark mode but when I opened the app a few minutes ago it cracked and I no longer have the dark mode option. Did this happen to anyone else?” said one of the Reddit users. “Just realized the app no longer has the redesign at all, back to the way it was pre-update,” the user later added with many others confirming the same in threads.
There is no comment from Google as to what made it pull back one of the much-requested features from the app. There are no bugs or issues reported with the app version as well.
Google last week introduced the Android 9.0 Pie (Go Edition) for entry-level smartphones. The ‘Go’ version which was launched last year is Google’s one of the efforts to kill the Android fragmentation in the market.
The company says that the Go version of Android Pie will offer faster boot time to entry-level smartphones, 500 MB of additional storage and accessible dashboard for monitoring and tracking data consumption. The version will be released later this year. India is one of the first markets that will be getting the Android Pie (Go Edition) smartphones.
