Rishabh Pant became the fourth Indian wicket-keeper to take five catches on debut when he achieved the feat on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Trent Bridge.

It was a busy day for the debutant as Pant took the catches of Alaistair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid.

He was assisted mainly by all-rounder Hardik Pandya who picked up his first five-wicket haul to bundle out England for just 161 in the first innings.

Pant joined an illustrious list of keepers which includes Naren Tamhane (against Pakistan in 1955), Kiran More (against England in 1986) and Naman Ojha (against Sri Lanka in Colombo).

The 20-year old also became the third in the world to take five catches in an innings on Test debut. Besides Pant, the two other cricketers to achieve this feat are – Australia’s Brian Taber and his compatriot John Maclean.

During India’s first innings, Pant (24 off 51 balls) was unable to score big but that did not stop the youngster from adding another record to his name.

The 20-year old became the first Indian cricketer and 12th overall to open his account in Test cricket with a six as he slammed Adil Rashid for a maximum.
