Delhi woman kills self during video chat

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in her house in northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur following an argument with her friend during a video chat on Saturday night.
According to the police, the woman, preparing for the company secretaryship examination, allegedly threatened to commit suicide over the argument but her friend, a classmate at a coaching institute, didn’t take it seriously. However, as the chat was still on, he soon noticed her tying the noose and tried to stop her. When the woman didn’t respond to his appeals, he called her father and informed him about the developments.

The father knocked on her door several times but had to finally forcibly open it. He allegedly found her hanging from the ceiling fan with her chunni around the neck. family members untied the noose and took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. The medical staff called cops and the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy. No suicide note was found.

DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said an inquest proceeding under section 174 of CrPC had been initiated for further investigation.

Cops have asked the deceased’s friend to join the investigation and seized the woman’s mobile phone. The family members are also being questioned to find out if there was any sign of depression that could have led to the incident.
