Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha on Sunday threw his weight behind naming the Barhi chowk after former Prime Mnister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. With Barhi chowk situated on the intersection of GT road, NH-33 and NH-31, the demand to rename it was first heard from local people. Sinha said he will talk to Chief Minister Raghubar Das in this regard.

According to Sinha, the former prime minister visited this place number of times addressing rallies to participating in programs. He said Vajpayee was a great leader and good human being. He said naming this important chowk on him will be a real tribute from people of Hazaribag.

Sinha said he will ensure that once this roundabout is renamed, a major beautification work is undertaken to make it a memoir of the former prime minister. “Right from fountains to gardening, I will ensure major work here,” he added. Sinha said recently he met to NHAI officials who agreed to take up all these works from their CSR fund.

Sinha said there are two ways to get any chowk renamed. He said first is that state government get in cleared from the Assembly. Second local panchayat representatives of Barhi take unanimous decision and send it to State Government, he added. “I will not leave any stone unturned in this regard,” said the local MP.
